Back To The Gym After Quarantine Workout For Older Men…

Guys.. there’s good news, and that is most of the gyms are back open! Now I know a lot of you are excited to get back in, and you missed the gym! That is great, but there are some things you want to avoid doing now that you are back in action. So, listen to these tips to avoid these back to the gym mistakes. When you come back to the gym after a long time of not being there, there are things you do that can have a big impact. Let’s get started with this back to the gym after quarantine workout for older men.

Mistake #1: EGO LIFTING. Your brain may think that even though you haven’t been to the gym in a long time, that you can still lift the same weight as before. Bicep curls is a good example where you load the weight on for the exercise. It may feel like you haven’t missed a beat, but your form is going to suffer and you’ll be using more momentum than working your muscles. That can also cause a potential injury, so avoid this when you get back to the gym. DON’T SACRIFICE FORM TO LIFT MORE WEIGHT!

Mistake #2: SHORT RANGE OF MOTION. You want to make sure that you are utilizing good form in each of your exercises in your workout. Make sure to use lighter weight and slow controlled movements as you are getting back into your gym workouts. You will be surprised by the results you get from lifting lighter weights with good form, after just getting back in the gym.

Mistake #3: RUSHING YOUR EXERCISES. You need to ease your body back into your gym workouts. If you push yourself too hard, you are going to be too sore and lose motivation to go back the next day. Use lighter weight, less reps, and focus on form as you get back into it. Also, take some rest between sets, you don’t need to go from exercise to exercises without any rest in between. It is going to take time for you to get back to where you were.

Mistake #4: BEING DISTRACTED. I see this one all the time, and it can be pretty regular in the gym. Even if it is not busy at the gym, do not just sit on a machine while being on your phone. Not only is that unproductive for you as you are working to build muscle and burn fat, but it affects people around you who may be waiting to use that machine. You need to put effort into your exercises and focus on what you are trying to do, eliminate the distractions.

Mistake #5: NOT WASHING YOUR HANDS. Make sure to wash your hands after your workout, and this is not just Covid related. Believe it or not, washing your hands after you workout may prevent you from getting sick. This is something small, but it can make a difference for you.
