Pork Rinds
52% fat, 48% protein, no carbs
Pork rinds are crispy chips made from slices of pig skin deep-fried in lard – their fat content are made of 43% monounsaturated fat (oleic acid)
Monounsaturated Fat (Oleic Acid)
Pork rinds contain oleic acid (OEA) – OEA activates a transcription factor called PPARα that increases the expression of genes involved in fat burning and the fat browning protein UCP-2
Saturated Fat
Our brains are comprised of 60% fat and the majority of the fat in the brain is saturated – the myelin sheath that surrounds the nerves in the brain and ensures their proper function is also largely made of saturated fat
Biltong (Jerky Alternative)
Not cooked at all – instead, it is soaked in a salt-and-vinegar brine before being hung to air-dry
Chomps (Grain vs Grass)
Grain Fed
Grains have high concentrations of glyphosate
Glyphosate interferes with cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes
Glyphosate also leads to the chelation of minerals, such as cobalt and iron, among others
Glyphosate is known to deplete the healthy gut bacterium Lactobacillus, whose depletion is associated with celiac disease.
Bone Broth
Muscle meat is relatively high in methionine, which can be turned into another amino acid: homocysteine – Homocysteine is highly reactive within your body, and glycine, found in high amounts in bone broth, may reduce homocysteine levels
It’s also high in amino acids like proline, hydroxyproline, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin sulfate, which aren’t found in muscle meats – they’re found in the tendons, joints & skin of animals (what you don’t normally consume)
