In a lot of our videos, we talk about what you should do before a workout. Today, I am going to tell you the 6 worst things you can do before a workout. The goal is to optimize your workouts, and maximize your results from each one of them. Make sure to stick around for the 6th worst thing because it is going to surprise you! With that said, let’s get started with the 6 worst things you can do before a workout.

#1: EAT A BIG MEAL. Eating a large meal increases blood flow to your digestive system. You want the blood flow to be going to your muscles during your workout, so make sure to avoid eating a big meal. It can also make you feel bloated and nauseous during your workout.

#2: STATIC STRETCHING. This can hinder your performance and weaken your body prior to a workout. This can lead to injury. It is good to stretch, but not right before working out. It is best to stretch after your workouts when there has been blood flow in the muscles.

#3: DOING CARDIO. Doing cardio uses all your energy before a workout and it fatigues your muscles. This can prevent you from building more muscle because you don’t have the energy for when you are lifting weights. It is better to do cardio after your workout, or even separate from your workout.

#4: TRAINING YOUR CORE. A lot of your big exercises or multi joint exercises use your core, so it is good to make sure that your core is not exhausted going into those big exercises. Compound exercises use your core for stability and support. You want to have your core at 100% for your workouts.

#5: EATING A SALAD/VEGGIES. This may offer a lot of water and fiber, but not a lot of calories that you need to fuel your workout. You want to make sure that you are fueled for your workout.

#6: DON’T DRINK TOO MUCH COFFEE OR PRE-WORKOUT BEFORE THE WORKOUT. You don’t want to overdo it, so maybe just have one serving before your workout. Too much caffeine can cause an upset stomach.
