If you want to build muscle, you need to eat more protein! You might be surprised by how much protein you need to be eating to build and maintain muscle. There are the typical foods that you know are high in protein, like salmon, chicken, and steak. Today, I am going to give you 8 foods that are surprisingly high in protein. You don’t need to eat all of these foods, but if you need more protein you have more options than just meat. Here are the 8 foods that you may not have known are high in protein.

Food #1: PEAS. 1 cup of peas is equal to 8 grams of protein, and it doesn’t take up much room on your plate. You can really add them to any dish, and they contain a lot of vitamins and minerals, while also being high in fiber.

Food #2: PARMESAN CHEESE. 1 ounce of parmesan cheese has 10 grams of protein. It compliments other foods easily, which makes it easy to get more protein with your meals.

Food #3: OATMEAL. This has 9 grams of protein per half cup. A half a cup is not a lot of oatmeal, so you can easily get a lot of protein with just one cup of oatmeal. You can add milk or a scoop of protein powder to make it even higher in protein. Oatmeal also helps by lowering cholesterol levels.

Food #4: QUINOA. There are 8 grams of protein in 1 cup of quinoa. Sometimes it is good to replace rice with quinoa. It is also loaded with fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

Food #5: EGGS. There are a full 6 grams of high quality protein in just one egg. Eggs can also provide good cholesterol, which can help you boost your testosterone.

Food #6: SPROUTED WHOLE GRAIN BREAD. 1 slice of whole grain bread has 5 grams of protein. Add 2 slices to your breakfast to have with your eggs, and you are going to have a high protein meal first thing in the morning.

Food #7: PUMPKIN SEEDS. There are 8 grams of protein per ounce of seeds. They are higher than any other nut or seed when it comes to protein. You can also add them to salad or yogurt for a protein boost.

Food #8: LENTILS. There are 18 grams of protein per cup of lentils. Adding this to your diet is going to give you a huge boost in protein, to make sure you are getting enough.

So, why is it important to prioritize protein in your diet. As a man over 40, you are already fighting against a natural loss in testosterone and muscle mass. One of the easiest changes you can make to help offset these things is to eat more protein.
