When you are working out at home, it is important to make sure that you are working your chest. However, you need to make sure that you are doing the right exercises to make sure you are building muscle safely, without risking any injury. That is why I am going to give you the 3 best and worst chest exercises for men over 50. All you need for these exercises is a set of dumbbells. If you have a bench that is great, otherwise you can do them on the floor or even use some couch cushions. Alright, with this said, let’s start with the 3 best exercises for your chest that you can do at home.

Best Exercise #1: FLAT DUMBBELL CHEST PRESS. Bring your elbows down past your back if you can to get a nice deep stretch in your chest, and contract at the top of the movement. This is going to be your standard form dumbbell chest press, and make sure to utilize slow and controlled movements.

Best Exercise #2: INCLINE DUMBBELL CHEST PRESS. Try to have a 30 degree incline, and that will help emphasize using your upper chest. If you don’t have a bench, you can use couch cushions to elevate your back to make it an incline movement. Don’t do too much of an incline because you don’t want your shoulders to be worked in the movement.

Best Exercise #3: DUMBBELL CHEST FLY. Focus more on the form than the weight in this exercise. Since you are bringing the dumbbells out to your side, you don’t have as much support as you would in the pressing movement. Avoid injuring yourself by using light weight and proper form.

Now it is time for the 3 worst chest exercises for men over 50..

Worst Exercise #1: DECLINE CHEST PRESS. This exercise is not necessarily bad for you or dangerous, but there are better exercises to help build your lower chest, while also working other parts of your chest at the same time.

Worst Exercise #2: HEAVY DUMBBELL FLY. Using heavy weights when doing flys can put you at risk of tearing a pec muscle, which will put you out of commission for a while. You are still able to build a big chest using lighter weights and proper form, especially when doing dumbbell flys.

Worst Exercise #3: INCLINE DUMBBELL CHEST PRESS with a steeper angle. This is going to work your shoulders more than your chest, so that is why it is important to be around the 30 degree angle for incline presses.
