Good nutrition is vital for having a good workout. If you eat the wrong foods, you are setting yourself up for a disappointing and unproductive workout. You can feel weak and drained just minutes into your workout, all from the food you eat prior. However, if you eat the right things you will feel strong, motivated, and energized throughout your workout. There are a lot of elements that go into having a productive workout, and food is one of the biggest factors that can improve your performance drastically.

Now, let’s talk about what you should eat and what you should stay away from before a workout. Let’s start off with one of the foods you need to avoid.

AVOID FAST FOOD. This may be convenient, but that will come at a price. Most fast food is designed with taste in mind, which includes lots of sugars, additives, and preservatives. There are alternatives that are more nutritious, more filling and satisfying.

Another food to avoid before a workout is DAIRY. It does provide good health benefits, but it is not a good option for a pre-workout snack. Minimize the intake of butter, milk, cheese, and yogurt before a workout. It takes longer to digest than most foods, which can make you feel sluggish and nauseous during your workout.

More food you want to avoid before a workout is HIGH FIBER VEGETABLES. These are great foods to have and are full of nutrients. If you eat veggies like broccoli or asparagus before a workout, your body is not going to have time to properly digest them, which can cause an upset stomach.

So, what are some good choices to eat to supercharge your workouts?

One of the best macronutrients to add to a pre-workout meal is CARBOHYDRATES. Complex carbs take longer to break down, which will provide more lasting energy for your body. You should also add a LEAN PROTEIN source to your meal. This helps improve muscle growth synthesis, and helps promote recovery. Combining lean protein with a carbohydrate before a workout is a great meal. Here are some meals you can have:

5 ounces of chicken with a sweet potato, baked potato, or jasmine rice
If you are working out in the morning, you can have 5 egg whites and a cup of steel-cut oatmeal
A quick snack can be a banana, rice cakes, oatmeal with honey, or a banana mashed with natural peanut butter

These are foods you can have before any workout. Time and quantity are important when choosing what and when to eat before a workout.

That wraps up this video tutorial on how to supercharge your workouts. Make sure you follow these tips and foods to get better results and more productive workouts. Subscribe to our channel for more videos on how to build more muscle and get in shape.
